Airtel increased its mobile subscriber numbers 17 per cent to 4.4 million from 3.8 million in same period with Safaricom users rising 10 per cent to 19 million.

Data from the CBK shows that the value of transactions done through mobile phones rose by 60 per cent in 2011 to Sh1.169 trillion with all six mobile money operators registering an increase in customer numbers.
