Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has replaced Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) chief executive Muriithi Ndegwa with a senior marketing executive in a move marking the start of management changes at the ministry’s parastatals.

Ms Jacinta Nzioka, who has been the acting director of marketing, will now be the acting managing director as the board looks to fill the position competitively.

Mr Ndegwa has been at the helm of KTB for slightly over six years and has served two full terms.

“We will fast track all the administrative and policy issues that we have at hand to enable us strengthen the performance of all the institutions that are under our ministry,” Mr Balala said Friday.

Kenya has recorded an improvement in the tourism sector especially at the coast where terror-linked cases of insecurity have been dealt with.

KTB is charged with promoting tourism in the country and abroad as well as advising sector stakeholders on market trends and needs.

The move comes after the board recently admitted that a Sh30 million mobile phone-based trivia campaign where participants answered questions via SMS on domestic tourism topics had multiple errors.
