President fills Security docket

President Kibaki, in consultation with Prime Minister Raila Odinga, on Thursday appointed Kajiado South MP Katoo ole Metito as the Minister for Provincial Administration and Internal Security.

He replaces the late George Saitoti, who was killed in a helicopter crash on June 10. Mr Alfred Khangati will be his assistant.

Funyula MP Paul Otuoma, formerly the Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, was appointed Minister for Local Government.

Regional Development minister Fred Gumo was acting in the position after the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi.

President Kibaki appointed Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba as the new Youth Affairs and Sports minister. Gwassi MP John Mbadi becomes an assistant minister in the Office of the Prime Minister.

West Mugirango MP James Gesami was reinstated as an assistant minister for Public Health and Sanitation after he was acquitted of graft charges by the courts.

The filling of the Internal Security docket comes as the government tackles violence in the Tana Delta.
