Bharti Airtel has appointed a new CEO to replace Shivan Bhargava whose three-year term has come to an end.

The Indian firm Tuesday said it has tapped Adil El Youssefi, previously the general manager of Millicom Group in Ghana, in changes that also saw the appointment of Amadou Dina as managing director for Seychelles.

Both appointments will be affective April 15. Mr Bhargava who took over from Rene Meza is said to be going back home to India.

The appointment of the new CEO comes against the background of possible exit by both Orange Telecoms and YuMobile from the Kenya, with Airtel Kenya reported to be eyeing yuMobile subscribers in a deal that could see Safaricom acquire yu infrastructure.

“We have every confidence that both Adil and Amadou are the right people to lead the company’s quest for further growth in Kenya and the Seychelles at this juncture. Adil has the experience gained in both emerging and developed markets, coupled with the technical background that will help steer the operation in Kenya through the rapidly evolving telecom landscape,” Christian de Faria, Airtel CEO for Africa said.

Mr Dina has been with Airtel for the last eight years.
