Manufacturing group Bidco Oil Refineries’ chief executive Vimal Shah has won the East African entrepreneur of the year award.

The award recognises individuals who have displayed exceptional vision and leadership in building a company.

It markets edible oil brands like Elianto, and Golden Fry, cooking fats including Kimbo, laundry soaps, margarine, baking powder, and hygiene products.

“This award is in recognition of efforts put by each and every dedicated employee of Bidco and the important support accorded to us by our partners, well-wishers, and consumers,” Mr Shah told the Business Daily.

“It means that we have to work even harder to achieve bigger things.”

The annual All African Business Leaders Awards (AABLA) is organised by ABN Productions in partnership with CNBC Africa.

It aims at acknowledging individuals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership in the business world. Mr Shah has been at the centre of the firm’s brisk expansion since its inception.

“Vimal Shah has had a steering role at Bidco since its inception, playing a formative role in strategic planning and management of the company,” said the citation.

Mr Shah received the award at a ceremony held in Nairobi. Similar ceremonies will be held in West, and southern Africa.  The winners of each region become finalists in the AABLA grand finale to be held in Johannesburg later in the year.
