A Bill that is set to legally define Konza Technopolis will be ready in the next two weeks, the State announced even as rival counties jostled to be the main beneficiaries.

ICT secretary Fred Matiang’i said that the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KOTDA) Bill would address the issue of the location of the project after a scramble for revenue by three counties of Makueni, Ol Kejuado and Machakos broke out.

A draft policy released by the ministry in July shows that Makueni County governor or his designate shall be among those appointed to KOTDA’s board of directors, leaving out his counterparts from neighbouring Ol Kejuado and Machakos.

“The physical location of the project and the framework for revenue allocation to the three counties will be part of the Konza Technopolis Development Authority Bill which is being formulated,” Dr Matiang’i said.

Last month, Makueni residents led by their county representatives accused Machakos County leaders of colluding with Lands ministry officials to alter the original map which, according to them, indicates that a better part of the project is in Makueni with some sections extending to Machakos and Kajiado counties.

“Let me not comment on it because we have agreed not to make comments and leave that to the minister,” Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua told the Business Daily.
