Chartis to revert to old name, AIG

Models at it when AIG Kenya Insurance changed its name to Chartis. The firm has announced plans to revert back to its former AIG brand that it dropped in 2008 at the height of the global financial crisis.

Global general insurance firm Chartis has announced plans to revert back to its former AIG brand that it dropped in 2008 at the height of the global financial crisis.

Robert Schimek, president and chief executive officer of Europe, the Middle East and Africa Chartis has said that the company will revert back to the former brand globally from October this year.

“In October we want to return back to the name we are known by,” said Mr Schimek.

The company hopes to have settled the United States government bailout of $182 billion (Sh15.47 trillion) by the end of the year.

In 2008, AIG the financial services conglomerate changed its name to Chartis, globally. The move affected all its subsidiaries including in Kenya. Some of its businesses in other parts of the world were sold.

Japh Olende, managing director of Chartis in Kenya, said the company’s businesses East Africa were not affected by the financial crisis.
