Dubai group pokes holes in Steers case

A Dubai firm, Suzan General, wants the High Court to allow it to sign a contract for developing a fast food restaurant at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, pending determination of a court row with Steers, a rival bidder for the deal.

Suzan General on Wednesday urged Justice George Odunga to order a suspension in the actual implementation of the project rather than signing of the contract, opposing an application filed by Hoggers Limited which runs the Steers franchise in the country.

“Signing of the contract will allow a series of preliminary events including access to site, designing of the restaurant which needs to be approved by KAA before the actual implementation is done. The project is of public interest and this will create confidence that the project which was supposed to kick off mid this year will be fulfilled,” the Dubai firm told the court.

It argued that signing of the contract will not prejudice Steers or court proceedings.
