Kenyans from Liberia released after testing negative for Ebola

Kenyans who arrived from Liberia last night and held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for Ebola screening have been released.

The Health ministry announced that the results of the nine Kenyans had turned out negative for the virus and they were allowed to go home.

However, they will be monitored for the next 21 days for any signs of the disease, Kepha Ombato, a ministry official said.

Blood samples from the Kenyans, who included five adults and four children, had been taken to the Kenya Medical Research Institute for testing.

The Ebola epidemic has killed more than 4,000 people this year, mostly in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has identified Kenya as a high-risk zone for Ebola, which the organisation has branded “the most severe acute public health emergency in modern times.”
