Microsoft CEO in Kenya for Windows 10 launch

Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella arrived in Kenya a day ahead of the global launch of his company’s Windows 10 operating system on Wednesday evening.

A tweet from his personal account at about 4pm Tuesday included a picture of a signpost at the Nanyuki airfield in Laikipia, indicating he was spending the night upcountry before traveling to the capital for the launch at the Nairobi Arboretum.

Another tweet Wednesday had him in Nairobi meeting with tech industry innovators at Mawingu Networks, a beneficiary of Microsoft's 4Afrika initiative, which is aimed at improving internet connectivity on the continent, educating developers and promoting Africentric technologies.

Pitched as “the best Windows ever”, the multi-platform software is being described by industry analysts as Microsoft’s attempt to reverse its fortunes in the mobile industry. The software is expected to power smartphones, personal computers, tablets, games consoles and wearables.

“Windows 10 will be shipped with Cortana (a Siri-like digital personal assistant), Microsoft Edge and integrated with Xbox to give people around the world more freedom,” documents about the launch show.
