Naikuni to leave Kenya Airways on October 31

What you need to know:

  • A board meeting held on September 19 accepted Naikuni’s resignation with effect from October 31 this year.
  • Mbuvi Ngunze will formally take over as Executive Director, Group MD and chief executive on November 1.

Titus Naikuni has resigned from national carrier Kenya Airways and will be leaving a month earlier than previously announced, the airline’s board says.

No reason has been given for this decision. However, his recent appointment to head the board of Rift Valley Railways comes into effect “in November”.

A board meeting held on Friday September 19 accepted Naikuni’s resignation as a director and as Group Managing Director with effect from October 31 this year. The board notified the Nairobi Securities Exchange, as required by law, in a disclosure dated the same day.

Mbuvi Ngunze, the former chief operating officer named as Mr Naikuni’s replacement on June 24 this year, will formally take over as Executive Director, Group MD and chief executive on November 1 this year.

Mr Naikuni joined the Kenya Airways as group CEO in 2003.

Prior to joining the national carrier, Naikuni was Group Managing Director of Magadi Soda Company. In 1999, he was appointed permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information, Transport and Communication as part of a ‘dream team’ of experts engaged by government to drive economic reform.
