Nakumatt joins bank in debit card venture

Nakumatt has teamed up with I&M Bank to create a visa debit card that will enable shoppers to earn smart points at any of the supermarket outlets.

Dubbed Pre-paid travel card, it will be open to customers and non-customers of the bank and will be launched on Friday.

It is expected to help boost the profile of I&M which was the first bank in the country to unveil a payment gateway earlier in the year.

Nakumatt has similar partnerships with Barclays Bank and Equity Bank which allows the bank’s customers to withdraw money at the supermarket’s tills.

Major retail outlets and service providers have in the past few years been partnering with financial institutions to unveil either credit or debit cards for clients.

Kenya Airways partnered with CFC Stanbic to unveil the Msafiri credit card.

The airline’s customers earn KQ-miles on everyday spending and in exchange they get to enjoy travel upgrades and reward flights to any destination on the Kenya Airways network.
