Nakumatt Holdings has opened a new branch in Bamburi, Mombasa, as it seeks to expand its presence beyond the central business district.

The new retail outlet, its sixth branch in the Kenyan coast, targets residents of Bamburi, Vescon and Kiembeni estates.

“This is a happy day for us; it shows how we are continuing to grow. This becomes the sixth branch we have in the coast and we are hoping to venture in other places,” Nakumatt Supermarkets managing director Atul Shah said.

The retail chain now has 52 stores across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.

The new outlet on 15,000 square foot facility will also host eateries, pharmacies, among other shops.

Nakumatt’s expansion comes despite the region experiencing increased security threats, which Mr Shah hopes the government will have under control.

In attendance of the opening was Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, as well as members of the County Assembly. Mohamed Ndanda, Kaza Ndani MCA promised to oversee erection of street lights to help in the security in the area.
