What you need to know:

  • National Oil's Nairobi stations will for the next month sell diesel at Sh99.60 per litre, down from the Sh100.67 set by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
  • The oil retailer said a similar discount also applies to motorists in other parts of the country, based on the prevailing ERC upper limits.

Motorists have a reason to smile, at least for the next two weeks, after National Oil reduced its diesel pump prices by a shilling lower than the maximum prices set by the industry regulator.

The oil retailer’s Nairobi stations will for the next month sell diesel at Sh99.60 per litre, down from the Sh100.67 set by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

National Oil said a similar discount also applies to motorists in other parts of the country, based on the prevailing ERC upper limits.

“This reduction is aligned to the government’s vision of making Kenya a least cost country including through lowering the cost of energy,’’ National Oil said in a statement.

National Oil has 102 service stations across the country. The state-owned company has in recent years been pushed to prioritise public interest rather than profit maximisation, offering an alternative to private oil marketers.

Fuel prices on Tuesday last week fell by a lower margin compared to the prevailing global crude costs which are currently trading at their lowest level since 2010.

ERC cut super petrol prices in Nairobi by Sh1.69 to Sh110.89 and lowered that of diesel by Sh0.75 to Sh100.67 per litre.
