Industrialisation secretary Adan Mohamed has appointed Nixon Sigey the managing director of New KCC.

Mr Mohamed, through a gazette notice, revoked the term of current boss Kipkirui Langat three months ahead of his retirement.

The incoming MD, Mr Sigey, will begin his term on New Year's day.

“I appoint Nixon Kipkemoi Sigey to be the managing director of the New Kenya Co-operative Creameries Ltd, for a period of three (3) years with effect from January 1, 2015,” said Mr Mohamed in the latest issue of the Kenya Gazette.

“The appointment of Dr Kipkirui Lang'at is revoked with effect from January 1, 2015.”

The hiring of Mr Sigey, who hails from Kericho County, is likely to reignite debate on how the UhuRuto administration has shared plum public service jobs to people from their political backgrounds of Central and Rift Valley provinces.

Mr Sigey will take office at a time when the State-owned dairy processor is lined up for sale to private investors.

Dr Langat took over as the milk processor’s chief in March 2011 for a three-year term that was extended last year by the Cabinet Secretary for Industrialisation and Enterprise Development, Mr Adan Mohamed, for 12 months.

The Privatisation Commission is working on the sale of New KCC, with the government keen to offer farmers a 42 per cent stake, employees four per cent, while 42 per cent is to be floated at the Nairobi bourse. The government is interested in retaining a 20 per cent stake.

However, the equity sale has remained a challenge, with farmers not agreeing on the valuation and allocation of shares.

The milk producers want to hold at least 80 per cent stake in the company and have demanded an evaluation on all the milk cess paid to New KCC  since the 1980s.

Mr Sigey scored 67.8 per cent to trail Mr Charles Ongwae in the search for a new managing director at the Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs).

The Industrialisation secretary finally appointed Mr Ongwae to head Kebs.
