Retail chain Tuskys Supermarkets has moved to boost its credit-based shopping volumes after it signed a partnership deal with Safaricom Sacco Ltd.

Under the deal signed on Friday, the telco’s sacco members will be able to shop for items worth up to three times their deposits.

The items will be acquired on credit basis at any of the retailer’s 53 stores across the country after members obtain a Local Purchase Order (LPO) from the sacco's offices.

Tuskys chief executive, Dan Githua, said the supermarket had taken deliberate steps to differentiate the on-credit shopping experience for the Safaricom sacco members at its stores.

“This is part of Tuskys Supermarkets expansion strategy that focuses on deepening partnerships with our corporate partners to drive business growth,” he said.

Mr Githua said the deal with corporates was geared towards boosting sales volumes for household goods such as Sofa sets, assorted furniture, TVs, fridges and other electronics.

Safaricom Sacco chief executive, George Ochiri, said the partnership was a welcome development for its members and would add to the options they have in acquiring household items.

“We are delighted to note that our members can now enjoy discounts, credit and deliveries while shopping at Tuskys,” he said.

Since its founding in 2001, the sacco has registered 9000 members and currently has an asset base of Sh3.3 billion.

The retailer has a similar partnership with Ukombozi Sacco, the umbrella sacco for Deliverance Churches in Kenya that has 7000 members countrywide.
