The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) will continue with the probe into the Eurobond cash in a bid to glean crucial information, two weeks after the anti-graft watchdog cleared government officials of culpability for the alleged loss of funds.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had on January 8 handed a report to the DPP, clearing Treasury officials of allegations that they embezzled part of the Sh250 billion Eurobond proceeds.

The EACC had cited lack of evidence and recommended that the file be closed. DPP Keriako Tobiko now wants the probe to continue.

“In the course of reviewing the file, the DPP Team noted some crucial areas that require clarification and/or additional information before a definitive decision can be made on this matter,” a statement from Mr Tobiko's office read.

The DPP added that his team held a meeting with the relevant EACC officials and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday to discuss the areas identified for clarification and/or additional information.

The file is expected to be resubmitted to the public prosecutor's office within 14 working days.
