EACC chief Philip Kinisu questioned by detectives over NYS

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman Philip Kinisu was Monday interrogated at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters over his company’s transactions with the National Youth Service.

Mr Kinisu was summoned to appear before the DCI to shed light on how his family company, Esaki Limited, won lucrative government tenders worth millions of shillings.

Among the tenders is the supply of goods to the National Youth Service (NYS) which is under investigation by the anti-corruption agency over questionable supplies deals.

After being grilled at noon today, Mr Kinisu drove off without speaking to journalists who were waiting outside the main gate

Last week, the EACC boss confirmed that his firm Esaki Ltd was paid Sh35 million by NYS during the period when it (NYS) was faced with the Sh791 million scandal that claimed the jobs of top officials at the Ministry of Devolution.

“We have invited him to come over tomorrow [Monday] and tell us more about Esaki and its business with various state agencies,” said head of DCI, Mr Ndegwa Muhoro.
