Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko has allowed the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to proceed with criminal charges against 13 people and three firms linked to the Anglo Leasing scandal.

The 16, whose identities Mr Tobiko did not reveal, will be charged with conspiracy to commit an economic crime, fraudulent acquisition of property and failure to comply with the public procurement law.

“Being satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to sustain all the charges recommended by EACC, I have today directed that all the 13 individuals and three corporate entities be taken before court... to face various criminal charges,” he said in a Press statement.

A joint team of EACC and DPP officials was set up in October to review files on the scandal.
