Anti-graft body postpones grilling of Oswago, Oyombra

The anti-corruption agency on Wednesday once again postponed the grilling of former electoral commission boss James Oswago and the alleged mastermind of the ‘chicken’ scandal Trevy Oyombra.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Spokesman Yassin Amaro said the two would now be grilled at a later date.

The two were supposed to appear before the investigators on Monday but it was moved to Wednesday before being postponed indefinitely.

“Yes they were supposed to come but they have asked more time,” said Mr Amaro.

On Monday, Mr Amaro said investigators were still analysing statements that had already been recorded by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Issack Hassan, Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir and Mr Paul Wasanga, the former Chief Executive of the Kenya National Examinations Council.

Mr Oyombra allegedly transferred the money he received from British security printing firm Smith & Ouzman from his bank account to the election officials.

The scandal involved the British firm paying an estimated Sh50 million in bribes to the elections and examination officials to secure lucrative printing contracts ballots and exam papers.
