Former National Youth Service (NYS) Director-General Nelson Githinji will be arraigned to face fresh charges on allegations that he spent nearly half-a-million shillings of public cash to repair a personal car.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko Thursday said that there is sufficient evidence to charge Mr Githinji.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission three weeks ago submitted an investigation file to the DPP recommending that the Mr Githinji be charged alongside two senior NYS officials for allegedly servicing and maintaining the vehicle, registration number KBS 475S, at a cost of Sh497,335 paid by the NYS.

“Having given full consideration ... the DPP is satisfied that there is sufficient evidence,” Mr Tobiko said. The three will now be charged with abuse of office, conspiracy to defraud and fraudulent acquisition of public property.

This comes weeks after Mr Githinji was charged alongside former Devolution Principal Secretary Peter Mangiti for threatening NYS senior deputy director Adan Harakhe as he was investigating the theft of Sh695.4 million.
