- Aladdin conjures up an image of Arabic inspired food, informed by the Middle Eastern folk tale, but the menu is a mixture of continental and signature dishes.
After a long day or week all one wants is a break away from the hustle and bustle of the city, when one has a chance. It doesn’t matter where the road leads all you need is the promise of calm and peace at the end of the road.
Well there is one such place and its Aladdin Gourmet restaurant.
Located on Kiambu Road, its a pleasant surprise. I must admit Google maps somehow misled me, as it looked a bit far off but surprisingly it took 25 minutes from the city centre to get there. Thanks to the super highway.
Anyway, as we approached the entrance we were welcomed by a wooden sign board to a neat and manicured enclosure that is the parking lot. It is quite spacious, ideal for those who like to travel in packs. The overall look of the restaurant is impressive.

The restaurant’s manager, Mutua, excitedly ushered us in and gave us an option of either the outside or the well decorated and warm interior. We opted to sit outside, to enjoy the warm weather, and did not regret our decision.

The waiters are quite helpful and efficient with our orders taken immediately we are settled in. To complete A glass of rosé wine we ordered sets the mood and completes the whole ‘vacation in town picture’.

To start off, try the Dutch potato salad made of boiled diced potatoes mixed with carrots, chicken, garden peas and a salad dressing or the Crayfish cocktail served with lettuce and a thousand island sauce.
For mains, sample the delicious Aladdin Chicken cubes with ‘fat’ chips, that was lovely, there is also their very large T-bone steak made to your specification.
The prices are a bit on the higher side but the generous portions supplement for that. The ambiance is absolutely terrific and you can always use their warm lounge bar that offers a good selection of beverages and sumptuous bites.
