Industrialisation CS calls for checks against abuse of dominance

Industrialisation Secretary Adan Mohammed has added his voice to the dominance debate saying government agencies should check against abuse of dominance.

Speaking on Friday during the launch of Tuskys Internship Program in Nairobi, the cabinet secretary said that dominance tendencies may scare away investors.

“Market dominance in all sectors including the retail, telecommunications and oil industry needs to be checked because it scares potential investors. It is important that we create a favourable environment to reap big in terms of economic growth,” said Mr Mohamed.

Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia however in August defended Safaricom over calls to declare the company a dominant player in the market, saying the move risks killing innovation.

Information Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and telcom giant Safaricom have locked horns with the ministry accusing the company of abusing its dominance saying that it should be split into two.
