JSC picks Justice David Maraga as next chief justice

The Judicial Service Commission has selected Court of Appeal Judge David Maraga to be the next chief justice.

The JSC is set to forward the name of the 64 year old to President Uhuru Kenyatta who will then forward it to Parliament for vetting.

The staunch Seventh Day Adventist was picked from 11 candidates that included Supreme Court Judges Smokin Wanjala, and Jackton Ojwang as well as US based law professor Makau Mutua who were interviewed by the panel chaired by Prof. Margaret Kobia.

When he appeared for the interview he described himself as a decisive, humble and a good time manager who would take on the cartels that plague the judiciary.
