Education secretary Jacob Kaimenyi has appointed Joseph Kivilu as the new chief executive of the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec).
Mr Kivilu has been acting at the helm of the examination body since April and his appointment comes amid pressure for the position to be filled.
Prof Kaimenyi says the delay was due to consultations aimed at arriving at the best candidate.
Mr Kivilu, who has authored more than 10 publications, holds a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Alberta, Edmonton.
Paul Wasanga retired as CEO.
