The Education Cabinet Secretary, Jacob Kaimenyi, has said that the ministry released funds for the free primary and day secondary schools education last Friday.

Speaking during the signing of teachers’ performance contracts in Nairobi, Mr Kaimenyi however said that they are faced with many challenges of releasing of funds across all ministries.

The minister however declined to say how much money was released adding that if there are delays in releasing the funds then people have to be patient.

“The challenges are not just in the Ministry of Education but in other ministries as well. We released funds for schools last Friday and if it has not been done we shall have a look at it,” he said.

According to the Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association chairman, Shem Ndolo, the government had not only failed to remit the free primary education funds that it had retained for the second term, but had also failed to release this term’s allocation.
