What you need to know:

  • The three were arraigned before a Nairobi court Thursday morning.

  • They were released on a Sh10 million bond or Sh4 million cash bail.

Controversial businessman Deepak Kamani has been released on a Sh4 million cash bail after he denied fraud charges against him for his alleged role in the multibillion shilling Anglo Leasing scandal.

The businessman appeared before Chief Magistrate Hannah Ndung'u Thursday where he denied fraudulently acquiring public property in contravention of procurement laws.

He is accused of conspiring with top government officials to defraud taxpayers of over €99 million (Sh10 billion) through his companies Infotalent Limited, Apex Finance Corporation and Sound Day Corporation.

Mr Kamani was charged alongside his brother Rashmi and father Chamanlal. His kin were also released on the Sh4 million cash bail.

The hearing of their matter will be set on March 18.

The Kamanis were yesterday allowed to plead to the charges a day after seven other suspects including former finance minister Chris Obure.

They appeared before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission earlier on Thursday for processing.
