What you need to know:

  • Here are tips to help you enhance the person you want to portray.

The fashion market is full of accessories to suit every man’s taste, mood and class. Depending on the varying needs, a number of these accessories will come in handy in enhancing the general image that one wants to portray.

Here is a quick preview of some accessories, of which at least one should be in every man’s possession:

Cufflinks

Mixed with the right attire, cufflinks make any man look dashing and exceptional. They are simple, neat and give an image of formality with grace. Embrace different shapes and colours.

Hip flasks

Instead of carrying around your favourite distilled drink ( read alcohol) in a fragile bottle, buy the stainless steel flask to avoid spills in case the bottle breaks. However, do not keep the drink in the flask for more than three days and always rinse the flask before refilling it. For customised hip flasks, visit Maru Art Gallery.

Sunglasses

Apart for enhancing the wearer’s looks, sunglasses serve the major purpose of protecting eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays. Sunglasses that have UV rating of at least 400 are ideal for daily use.

Belts

Consider buying one that has a medium-size buckle for an official look. Avoid those huge ugly-looking buckles that cheapen your look. Leather is most definitely the best material to go for, and warm colours such as grey brown, black, are best for an official look.

Watches

A watch is an accessory that every man should wear- at least for functionality’s sake. Consider your lifestyle when getting one but for daily wear, one should settle for wrist colours like brown, black or grey.

Bold and trendy colours should be reserved for a second or third watch. Stainless-steel straps are more durable and can go well with casual and formal look. Water-resistant models are a safe option in case of accidental splashing, rain or sweat.

Money Clips

This are specially-designed for men who do not wish to carry a wallet around. The money clip is typically used to keep cash and credit cards compact.

Pocket Square

Dressed in a suit, a pocket square tucked in at the right place is a sure indication of a confident and knowledgeable dresser. The pocket square, a perfect complement to a tie, gives life to a shirt and makes the same suit look different every day. It helps add more personal style and sophistication to a bland looking suit.

When wearing a pocket square, be sure to get creative by trying out different fold designs, not limited to the breast pocket alone but also the butt pocket.

Hats

There are a variety of hats that fit different men’s styles and head shapes. For instance, a baseball cap can be paired with casual trousers, a cotton t-shirt, jacket and sneakers or suede boots for a relaxed look. A newsboy cap coupled with a slim-fit trouser, a denim shirt or a jersey t-shirt is a good fit for a road trip.

A Fedora hat will look good when paired with a slim-fit cotton shirt, straight leg trouser and a light blazer then add sunglasses and suede brogues to give the look a sophisticated touch.

Additionally, a flat cap will go well with cotton shorts, or slim-fit jeans, polo shits and waist coats, or with oxford shirts and boot or brogues shoes.

Bow ties

The bow tie is the most classic of all ties and it is the most fashionable alternative to men’s neckwear. It can be worn to cocktail parties and dinners.

Suspenders

These go very well in a formal set-up, but are never to be accompanied with a belt.

Tie accessories

The Tie is a clothing item that should be in every serious man’s closet. To keep a tie from flying around, one should clip, tack or chain it to the shirt. Tie bar (also known as tie slides), tie chains, tie tacks, tie clips and tie strap ensure that ties always stay attached to the shirt.
