In Summary
- Since the commission is mandated to manage public land, we are left wondering what underhand deals could be going on in our midst.
- Further delay in passing judgement is impacting on many public projects, including the expansion of Ngong Road. Only the High Court can unlock the sad state of affairs. It should.
On August 21, Parliament approved names of nine people to serve on the National Land Commission. But before President Kibaki made the appointments a case was filed in court, essentially leaving a vacuum in the management of public land.
At this time of political transition, we cannot afford any further delay on this case. Fraudulent land transactions could be taking place as we watch.
But there seems to be no hurry to hear the case. Professionals in the land sector have been demanding prioritisation of the case.
Since the commission is mandated to manage public land, we are left wondering what underhand deals could be going on in our midst. We cannot sit back and wait as a nation when we don’t have a functional commission on land.
That is why we join the various professional bodies that are asking the High Court to rule — whichever way — on this case to help the nation move forward on land matters.
Further delay in passing judgement is impacting on many public projects, including the expansion of Ngong Road. Only the High Court can unlock the sad state of affairs. It should.
