Parliament lost Sh95.9 million to a contractor following the High Court ruling that pushed the date of the last General Election from December to March 2013, a new report says.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) says the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) varied the contract for the provision of premises for the Senate because the ruling meant that MPs continued to sit in the Old Chamber that was to be remodelled to accommodate the 67 Senators.

At the time of the ruling, National Assembly members were transacting business at the Old Chamber while the new chamber underwent refurbishment in anticipation of the expanded membership.

The National Assembly has 349 members out of who 290 represent the constituencies.
