President Kenyatta signs private security Bill into law

President Uhuru Kenyatta Wednesday morning signed into law the Private Security Industry Regulation Bill.

The new law will provide for a framework for cooperation between the private security companies and the national security organs.

The Act also stipulates the setting up of the Private Security Regulatory Authority which is mandated to set standards, create an enforcing mechanism, improve personnel welfare and offer redress from unscrupulous players.

The law requires that all security firms be registered, have standard personnel training and proper remuneration for all private security guards.

The law also provide for guidelines for foreign ownership and control of businesses operating as security service providers.

The Authority shall be run as a corporate entity with perpetual succession and governed by a board. The president will appoint the person to chair the board.
President Kenyatta also signed the Political Parties Amendment Act 2016.

Present during the signing were the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, Attorney General Githu Muigai, Majority Leader in Parliament Aden Duale and Clerk to the National Assembly Justin Bundi.
