Sharp Electronics caused a stir in the market with the launch of its 80-inch AQUOS LED TV in the last quarter of 2011.

The home entertainment industry is constantly evolving with TVs moving from just a simple cathode ray box to slim, sleek and elegant designs.
Modern television can now be used for browsing the Internet, plating games or just to enjoy the theatre experience. Electronic makers are out to outdo one another with their flagship products.
The latest to join the fray is Sharp Electronics, which has caused a stir in the market with the launch of its 80-inch AQUOS LED TV in the last quarter of 2011. The set was unveiled in Kenya last year, making it one of the largest screens.
Months after its introduction into the market, electronic maker LG, raised the bar with launch of the 84-inch ultra-high definition cinemaTV, which debuted in the international market late 2012.
However, the Sh1.8 million set was launched in January, making it the highest priced set on the market.
Kenyans went into a frenzy due to the sheer cost of the screen until last month when Sony joined the race for the super class consumer with the most expensive television set in the country last week at Sh3.5million.
Sony’s 84-inch Bravia 4K TV has similar features as the LG Ultra Definition set but was priced more than Sh1 million higher than the LG’s.
However, AQUOS’s price is friendlier in the market but has fewer features than the LG and Sony TVs, which have ultra-high definition clarity and the 3D cinema experience.
Ultra-high definition was initially used by cinemas but the technology has now found its way to the comfort of the home. Sony has incorporated two pairs of passive glasses designed for use with the Dual multiplayer action. The glasses allow gamers get to enjoy the luxury of two player gaming experience without the need for a split screen.
Sony and LG television sets not only accept Ultra HD pictures, but they also upscale lower resolution content to the 3840 x 2160 mark. The 3D viewing from the Sony and LG delivers a realistic picture with the delivery of 1080 resolution to each eye.
