Shock as girlfriend shows up on night out with Shiro

Last Friday Shiro and I went out on a date night. She had been complaining that I usually work late and hardly have time to bond with her and our children.

It is hard to tell Shiro that I actually enjoy being away from home and the children. On days when I get home early Shiro insists that I help Maingi with his homework and also watch over the baby.

Though I love my children, there are times when I find Maingi too loud and the baby too demanding — what with her need for constant diaper changes!

However, given Shiro’s recent discussion about becoming a stay-at-home mother, I thought that a date night would help us in one way or another. I asked Shiro to choose activities for the night. This seemed to excite her and she said; “Let us go for Chinese food and dancing later.”

To be honest, the early part of the evening was somewhat tolerable. The food was nice and Shiro was not her usual harsh self.

“So, do you still want to be a stay-at-home mum?” I asked as we ate. “No way! I must have been having a moment of madness. I would be lost without my job,” she exclaimed.

That was the news I was waiting to hear, so I quickly ordered for a beer and relaxed. Shiro spent a lot of time on the phone calling the nanny to ask how the children were doing. This gave me enough space to enjoy myself and send messages to Gacheri.

Gacheri had wanted us to hang out but I told her that I had to take care of home affairs. “Babes, I surely will miss you,” she responded.

Kept me entertained

And now Gacheri kept me entertained with her text messages, telling me how much she missed me and how she was looking forward to seeing my “sexy self” on Saturday.

We left the restaurant at about 10.30pm and headed for an upmarket club. It was full of coloured lights which I feared might trigger a headache, but Shiro was really enjoying herself.

I noticed that most of the people in the club were less than 30 years old, which made me feel very old. The girls were wearing very short dresses and the boys skinny trousers.

Then Shiro excitedly jumped up and shouted; “That is my song! I love it!” And with those words she was off to the dance floor and I had to contend with watching her dance quite vigorously.

I am not a good dancer and being in the club reminded me of my poor leg-shaking skills. However, after three more drinks and with Shiro urging me on I ended up on the dance floor, shaking to some music which was now beginning to sound acceptable.

At 2am I asked Shiro whether we could go home and she said, “No way! The fun is just beginning, plus the babies are already asleep.”

I was happy to sit and watch Shiro and the other revellers dance themselves lame. As the night wore on, my eyes became transfixed on a couple that was dancing animatedly.

The girl was wearing a very tight dress and was giving her date the time of his life. I noticed that men were looking at the girl in admiration and sheer lust.

Only when I took a closer look did I realise that I had seen that face before — and the hairstyle looked familiar. Then it hit me. Right in front of my eyes was Gacheri, dancing seductively with a good looking young man.

I did not know what to think. She had told me that she was home and missing me yet here she was. Half an hour later I was drunk and very angry. I did not complain when Shiro said, “let us go home.”
