What you need to know:

  • The firm is looking for partner explorers for its Block 2A located in the Mandera basin following conclusion of a survey paving the way for deeper seismic surveys.
  • The firm had earlier announced it was seeking to sell a 40 per cent interest in Block 2A where it has a 100 per cent interest.

Simba Energy, a Canadian company searching for oil and gas in Mandera, has begun looking for partners to carry out more work on the block.

The firm said it is searching for partner explorers for its Block 2A located in the Mandera basin following conclusion of a survey paving the way for deeper seismic surveys.

“The company has reopened its data room and with the assistance of Ernst & Young’s corporate finance oil & gas division in London, has resumed discussions with numerous parties interested in participating in the development of Block 2A in Kenya,” said the firm in a statement.

Simba says the results show that its area of operations has the same features as the neighbouring blocks where other oil and gas firms are already drilling.

“We’re pleased to report that these very encouraging FTG results have increased the level of interest in Block 2A considerably,” said Simba chief executive Robert Dinning.

The firm had earlier announced it was seeking to sell a 40 per cent interest in Block 2A where it has a 100 per cent interest. Africa Oil, Premier Oil and Afren, the other explorers in the area, are expected to drill wells this financial year after seismic surveys.

The company recently raised Sh260 million to carry out additional work on the Kenya blocks through a private placement of shares.
