American online taxi-hailing firm Uber has partnered with oil company, Total Kenya, in a deal that will see its drivers fuel at select branches at a discount.

The partner drivers will be required to register with the oil firm to acquire the Total Fuel card to access the offer from July 25. The card will also help the drivers to keep track of fuel usage and manage fuel expenditure.

The drivers will receive a solar lantern and a 33 per cent discount during regular carwash routine.

Alban Tarneaud, Marketing Manager at Total Kenya says: “Uber is a leading, Global Technology and Innovation brand and the partnership will not only benefit driver-partners but also result in significant brand synergies for the two partners.”

Drivers in Nairobi will have to fuel at Total branches on New Mombasa road near Airtel head office, Limuru Road, Hurlingham on Argwings Kodhek road and Spring Valley.

Drivers in Mombasa will be required to fuel on Total Mkomani in Nyali, Kenyatta Avenue, and Bahati along the Mombasa- Malindi road to access the benefits.

Nate Anderson, General Manager for Uber in Kenya said the firm was happy to offer the extra benefits to driver-partners courtesy of Total Kenya, which sees them being charged less for fuel.

“We are excited about our new partnership with Total.  It gives us an opportunity to show our commitment and appreciation to driver-partners. Not only will they receive great benefits but this exclusive partnership will help reduce their daily costs and allow them to take home more money,” he said.
