President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to attend another Africa Rising forum on development in the tail-end of an official visit to the United States.

The meeting is an important follow-up to the historic US-Africa Leaders’ Summit hosted by US President Barack Obama in August, which saw American businesses commit to billions of dollars in new investments in the continent.

Apart from discussing emerging opportunities with other African leaders, Uhuru will also attend a high-level event on domestic financing for health.

According to a statement from State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu, the President and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta leave for New York Friday afternoon. During the visit, the President will attend the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly from September 22 to 24 and hold bilateral meetings with several leaders attending the meeting.

He will also attend a meeting of the Regional Oversight Mechanism of the Peace, Security and Co-operation Framework for the Democratic Republic of Congo and the region to discuss political and security developments.

On Tuesday, the President will attend the opening plenary of a Climate Summit for Heads of State and Government and later convene an HIV and Aids forum.

On her part, the First Lady will deliver a keynote address at a meeting on Maternal and New Born Health Beyond 2014 with focus on Adolescent Girls. The First Lady is spearheading maternal and child health initiatives in Kenya through her ‘Beyond Zero’ campaign.
