Uhuru appoints Lee Kinyanjui as chair of roads safety authority

Lee Maiyani Kinyanjui has been appointed to chair the board of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

President Uhuru Kenyatta made the appointment in a gazette notice with the new office holder expected to serve for a three-year term starting September 20.

Mr Kinyanjui is a former assistant minister for roads in the then coalition government.

He has replaced Joseph Kamau Thuo who served as the board’s chairman since April this year when NTSA was launched.

A close aide of the president, Mr Kinyanjui has been out of the public eye for some time since he lost his bid for the Nakuru County governor seat in the March 4 elections.

Before joining politics, Mr Kinyanjui was a marketer of petroleum products with Triton Company in Nakuru.

The appointment follows that of former Finance permanent secretary Joseph Kinyua who last week assumed a new role of Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service.

NTSA is expected to bring sanity to Kenyan roads that have recently witnessed upshot in number of accidents largely blamed on human carelessness.

It is tasked with implementing policies related to road transport and safety.

NTSA recently placed a notice on newspapers looking for an applicant for the position of the managing director who will take over from Isaac Kamau, the current interim office holder.
