The procedure is done to get rid of scars, wrinkles, stretchmarks, birthmarks and unwanted hair.

Laser Therapy, as a cosmetic procedure, is performed on the skin to give it an even look. The procedure is done to get rid of scars, wrinkles, stretchmarks, birthmarks and unwanted hair.

The therapy works in different ways. There is a type of treatment used in the removal of damaged upper layers of the skin allowing for the growth of a new one.

The procedure works perfectly in helping people to get rid of all types of marks including tattoos found on their bodies.

This type of treatment also stimulates the growth of collagen and elastin in the underlying layers of the skin. Collagen and elastin are responsible for ensuring normal skin tightness.

“Laser therapy can also stimulate the regeneration of normal skin colour,” explained Dr Mukuhi Ng’ang’a.

Another type of laser therapy helps in getting rid of unwanted hair on a targeted area. Laser hair removal requires six to 10 treatment sessions over a period of six months to completely stop the growth of hair.

The therapy is popular with ladies seeking to permanently get rid of hair around the face, armpits, bikini area and legs.

Pranav Pancholi, says that the cost per session depends on the target area and the type of treatment. For instance, a hair removal done on the upper lip costs Sh3000, while a full body procedure is performed at Sh50,000 per session.

As a side-effect, the procedure is known to cause redness, itching, swelling, peeling and sensitivity and burns from laser beams.

Avane Clinic is famous for laser treatments. Dr Pancholi attributes the success to the laser machines used at the facility. For instance, the clinic is currently using the Soprano Ice laser machine, which was named the best hair removal platform in 2015.

“The soprano ice is the gold standard in the world right now for laser hair removal, minimal side-effects-6 to 10 treatments, once a month,” he said.

People seeking laser treatment are advised to be wary of fake machines that are used by quacks out to make quick money.

Pancholi also advises clients to conduct due diligence on those offering the services to weed out quacks and seek second opinions whenever they are unsure.

“It is advisable to do research prior to the treatment and get to know the latest and approved laser treatments and machines in the market.

You should avoid any practitioner using unregulated machines, which are known to cause permanent scaring and irregular pigmentation,” he said.
