Warning: Court disruptions as board vets 72 judges, kadhis

The judiciary has warned of disruption of court service over the next three months as the suitability of magistrates and kadhis is vetted.

In a public notice dated August 21 the chief registrar Anne Amadi said that the judges and magistrates vetting board will determining whether the 72 judicial officers are fit to continue holding office.

“The exercise, to be carried out in line with the Vetting of Judges and Magistrates (amendment) Act, 2015, will involve judicial officers currently serving in various court stations across the country,” she said.

Ms Amadi said that while judiciary has made arrangements to manage the situation there would be a disruption of court services during that period.

“We are in the process of notifying individual litigants whose matters may not proceed as earlier scheduled. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience,” she said.

The board had already published in the media the complete list of judicial officers and court stations that would be affected by the vetting exercise.

They invited the public and institutions to participate in this process by submitting any relevant information which may assist in determination of suitability of the officers.
