While eight Kenyan artists will be featured in this year’s Bonhams ‘Africa Now’ Auction in London on May 22, another Kenyan, Cyrus Kabiru, is showing off his C-Stunners eye-wear sculptures in Milan.

Closer to home, the annual Manjano Art Exhibition opened late last week at Village Market’s two exhibition halls. Winners in two categories, Practicing and Student Artists, were awarded last Thursday night.

The organisers of Manjano at the GoDown Art Centre have been running the increasingly competitive exhibition since 2010.

Meanwhile, a colourful exhibition by James Mbuthia entitled How I See Politics is up at OneOff Gallery and offers rare insight into a seasoned Kenyan artist’s perspective on the recent General Election. It’s on through to the end of the month.

Kisumu Artists

At Banana Hill Art Gallery, urban art by the Ugandan artist Jjutte Hoods is up for one more day, after which a group of Kisumu Artists will be coming to Banana Hill, to exhibit their art through to mid-May.

At Nairobi National Museum, the Creativity Gallery is featuring the works of 10 Ngecha artists through May 17, including Fredrick Kamau Mbugua, Evanson Kangethe and Anna Turugah among others.

Diary

At Le Rustique Restaurant, the art of Dickens Otieno, Florence Wangui and Dale Webster is up to the end of April, and the Talisman Restaurant is showing both the sculptures and paintings of Gor Soudan.

Finally, the Kenya Arts Diary has announced that it’s sponsoring a Young Kenyan Artist Art Residency and invites artists to apply.
