The recent call by religious leaders for national dialogue to resolve political differences in the country could not have come at an opportune time.
To say that Kenyans are tired of the political grandstanding and anxiety prevailing in the country would be an understatement.
They want to get back to their lives, which have been dominated by politics for a long time with no end in sight.
The Kenyan economy is bleeding as investors keep a wary eye on the goings on. No sane investor would ever put their money in an environment that is clouded with uncertainty.
It therefore behoves our politicians to heed the call by religious leaders to opt for dialogue to resolve the problems ailing us.
What Kenya needs now are voices of reason that have the country’s welfare at heart.
The more our politicians continue maintaining their hard-line positions, the more the country will hurt.
The country cannot afford to continue on this path any longer hence the urgent need to embrace the call by our religious leaders.
But even before the national dialogue is held, we need to ensure that the exercise involves all Kenyans irrespective of their positions in society.
Such a noble exercise cannot succeed if the political class is allowed to take over the mantle. The current dire straits we are in are as a result of political expediency.
Politicians should now take a back seat and allow other Kenyans to craft an all-inclusive workable solution.
What we need are long-term solutions and not short-term gains that only seal the cracks for a short while.
Kenya is a currently a deeply divided country, all because of politics. It does not matter how many dialogue sessions we hold, if there is no commitment from everyone then the exercise will amount to nothing.
We urge everyone to embrace the national dialogue call and work hard to heal the wounds afflicting our loving country.
