Reports that 650,000 more households will be connected to electricity are welcome.
This is after Kenya Power rolled out the second phase of the mass connectivity project that was introduced in 2015.

Under the programme, homes are connected at a subsidised fee of Sh15,000, which is about half the previous cost.

280,000 homes have so far been connected under the programme out of the targeted 314,200.

The benefits of the electrification programme are immense. It not only creates more job opportunities across the country, but is also in line with the country’s Vision 2030 development blueprint.

The number of customers has grown from one million in 2010 to 6.3 million with the power connectivity access rate growing to 70 per cent.

More business is also created for the suppliers and the trickle down effects are huge. For example, the project will use 233,000 concrete and 397 wooden poles, 10,000 kilometres of cables and 1,000 transformers.

We aver that the power project is the way to go and its noble goals will benefit many Kenyans.
