The pace at which court rulings on election disputes are being dispensed with is to say the least most commendable.

Expeditious court rulings on such disputes are imperative as the August 8 General Election fast approaches.

On Friday, the opposition won a case in which the Court of Appeal affirmed that presidential election results announced at the constituency level would be final.

Another case where the opposition is suing to block the award of a ballot paper printing tender to a Dubai-based firm was also heard on Friday.

The court refused to cancel the ballot printing tender and instead directed that the file be placed before the Chief Justice to form a three-judge bench to hear the case. The company, Al-Ghurair,  was expected to start printing the 120 million ballot papers on Friday for delivery on July 25.

With only 42 days left to the polls, there are valid concerns that further delays are bound to throw the whole preparations process into disarray.

But we opine that we should not lose hope going by the speed the courts are dealing with the cases.

We urge all politicians to respect the court verdicts for the sake of peace and harmony.
