Huawei unveils latest phone in Kenyan market

Huawei Mobile has unveiled its latest device in the Kenyan market as it seeks to increase sales locally.

The Chinese device maker, which controls 8.9 per cent global market share, introduced in Kenya the GR5 2017 smartphone yesterday.

“Despite the stiff competition from recent and new entrants in this market, we believe our products offer a great experience,” said Huawei Mobile Kenya country manager Mark Hemaobin.

The GR5 2017 is one of the first gadgets in the local smartphone market that has a dual camera among the mid-range devices. The dual camera smartphone has 3GB RAM, and 32GB and 5.5 inch display. 

“Photography has become a key essential with majority of smartphone users who are shopping for devices that have powerful camera hence the introduction of mid-range phone with dual camera,” he added.

Mr Hemaobin said yesterday the firm plans to develop its high-end product portfolio in 2017 as well as invest in service infrastructure and brand.

“To maintain an upward demand and appetite for our devices, we intend to launch more devices in the coming months with a focus on high-end, middle and entry level smartphones, open more flagship shops in key markets across Kenya, and increase engagement with our retailers and wholesalers,” he said.
