Microsoft has unveiled its latest Lumia phones which have desktop computer features such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word targeting users keen on optimising productivity using smart devices.

The Windows 10-based devices include Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950XL 95 which are retailing at Sh65,000 and Sh69,999 respectively. Others are Lumia 650 and 550 retailing at Sh23,000 and 13,999 respectively.

The Lumia 950 XL is the larger of the two Windows 10 flagship smartphones Microsoft released in 2015 in the US, with the handset designed to take full advantage of Microsoft’s latest Windows 10 Mobile operating system.

Through a technology referred as continuum, users can turn the smartphone into a mini PC and boost their productivity while on the go.

“One of the guiding principles of the Microsoft devices vision is that it’s not just about the device itself, but what you’re able to get done with it,” said Kingori Gitahi, product manager at Microsoft Devices East Africa.

“We are working tirelessly to make sure that we do our best to give consumers the most productive phones on the planet.”

Microsoft acquired the Nokia devices and services business in 2014 giving it ability to enter into the hardware business.

The Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL will compete at the high-end segment of the smartphone market against handsets from Microsoft’s key rivals Apple and Samsung.

The Lumia 950 XL comes with 32GB of built-in storage space, expandable up to 200GB via microSD.

Other specs include a 20-megapixel main camera, a 5-megapixel selfie camera and a 3,340 mAh battery.
