Qatar Airways has for the fourth year running bagged the coveted Airline-of-the-Year award in the prestigious Skytrax World Airline Awards.

Travellers from around the world also voted the carrier as the Best Airline in the Middle East, World’s Best Business Class and World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge.

Hamad International Airport, Qatar Airways’ home and hub was this year rated five-star by Skytrax, one of only five in the world to be given this recognition.

“The Airline-of-the-Year award is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of every employee at Qatar Airways.

Our recognition at Skytrax this year is especially important as these awards are voted by travellers,” said Qatar Airways group chief executive Akbar Al Baker during the award ceremony in Paris last week.

Qatar Airways is operating in turbulent times following a diplomatic fallout with its Middle East neighbours over claims of supporting terrorism.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain severed ties with Qatar early this month, opening the worst rift among some of the most powerful states in the Arab world in years.
