Over 300 firms have so far submitted their entries for this year’s Excellence in Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards slated for next month.
Promoters say they have received about 250 entries from public sector entities, 91 from private sector and they are expecting about 70 entries from the county governments.
The awards are presented annually during a gala by the joint promoters – the Capital Market Authority (CMA), Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and the Public-Sector Accounting Standards Board – Kenya (PSASB).
This year’s gala will be held on November 17.
The UNCTAD director-general Dr Mukhisa Kituyi will be the chief guest.
“The promoters are keen to ensure that financial reporting culture is well entrenched by public and private entities,” said ICPAK national chairman Julius Mwatu.
The promoters have been keen in bringing on board constituency development fund (CDF), vocational institutions, schools and hospitals in future to embolden accountability in use of public funds.
