Safaricom’s #ticker:SCOM M-Pesa system will be out-of-service for 11 hours on Saturday night during the final phase of a scheduled upgrade of the platform.

The three-week upgrade, which started on Friday last week, will see new M-Pesa features added and some functions automated, reducing the need for customers to make requests at its call centre.

The final of the three phases will start on Saturday at 10pm to Sunday 9am. Stage one of the upgrade, which lasted two hours, happened on June 30 while the second phase took place for three hours on July 4.

The second phase impacted select services including international money transfer services, M-Shwari and KCB M-pesa.

“The third and final upgrade will take place from 10pm on Saturday 15 to Sunday 9am and will impact the availability of all M-Pesa services,” said Safaricom’s corporate affairs director, Stephen Chege.

“The final upgrade will result in a new, modern M-Pesa platform with increased functionalities, which will be rolled out to enhance the M-Pesa experience for all our customersand partners,” he said.

The upgrade will also reduce the time that new partners take to be integrated onto the M-Pesa system from weeks to a few hours and also see M-Shwari and KCB M-Pesa integrated into the Safaricom App.
