Banking services have resumed at the National Bank (NBK) #ticker:NBK after a three-day ICT outage that paralysed services at the mid-tier-lender.

The service interruption, which started on Monday following an upgrade of NBK’s banking platform on Saturday, resumed Thursday morning.

Nearly all the services offered at the counter such as cash deposits, cheque deposits, and electronic transfers which were disrupted after the weekend software upgrade were back Thursday.

“Our technical team fixed the intermittent outages and we are happy that all our services and major bank transactions are now available at all branches and our 24hr alternate channels,” said the bank’s chief executive Wilfred Mutuku Musau.

NBK is banking on the new ICT platform to “offer enhanced performance, flexibility and real-time interfaces.”

The upgrade, whose cost the lender has not disclosed, is expected to provide its customers an advanced banking platform to position itself for improved digital banking services.

“The system was successfully upgraded from BankFusion Universal Banking (BFUB) to Fusion Banking Essence [FBE], the fifth and latest version of BankFusion Universal Banking (BFUB) system, which will enhance our technology platform in line with the bank’s focus to improve customer experience.”

It is also expected to improve the bank’s operational efficiency and tighten its compliance and risk management functionalities.
