The Postal Corporation of Kenya (Posta) has warned the public against signing up with a private firm operating three letter box offices in Nairobi.

In a notice in local dailies, the corporation said that outlets located at Kasuku Centre, Valley Arcade Shopping Centre, and Greenspan Shopping Centre are no longer operated by Posta.

“The outlets which were previously operated by the Postnett Services Limited on agency basis are no longer operated by the corporation and any customers interested in owning a private box in any of those locations to get in touch with the Branch Manager at General Post Office (GPO),” reads the notice.

The corporation said it has not sold any private letter box or authorised any person or entity to do so on its behalf at the said locations.

The contract that had authorised Postnett to sell services on behalf of Posta expired after a two-year term between August 2013 and July 2015 and was not extended.

“There were irregularities in the amount that people were being charged… the deal was lopsided. We were not getting money. The person was not remitting funds. There were a lot of grey areas (in the agreement),” said Dan Kagwe, PostMaster General.
